Spellcheck a .chm online Help file

You can run a spell check and grammar check on your entire .chm file by following these steps.

    1. In Windows Explorer, open your .chm file and select the top-level book.
    2. Right-click the book and choose Print.
    3. Click No on the error message that pops up.
    4. Choose Print the selected heading and all subtopics.
    5. When the Print dialog box appears, select Print To File.
    6. Press Alt +Tab to Windows Explorer.
    7. Browse to your TEMP folder, and find the latest file of the pattern "~hh*.htm." This file is a concatenation of all the HTML files in the book that you printed.

      Tip

      • If you cannot find the file using the described name pattern, search for the newest file in the folder.
    1. Copy this file elsewhere and rename it before canceling (or continuing) the print job, as the file will then be deleted.
    2. Open the file in your Help authoring tool or Microsoft Word.
    3. Run a spell check.
    4. When you find an error, you can search for the error in your regular HTM files and correct the error in the topic.

      Tip

      • Search and Replace is a good tool for this. Just copy the error from the text dump .htm file and paste it into the Srch String box of Search and Replace. You can get Search and Replace from www.funduc.com.
